Project meetings

02/11 - 04/11/2023: SFB-Days in Vienna

In the final year of the Special Research Programme "German in Austria" all members gather to celebrate the last 8 successful years of research.

19/10 - 21/10/2022: SFB-Days in Vienna

2022, it was finally possible to meet again in person in Vienna for a professional exchange within the framework of the SFB Days. This gave colleagues from all project parts the opportunity to discuss current project results with the Advisory Board and make plans for the final year of the project.

10/12/2021: SFB Members Assembly

On 10 December 2021, the SFB's members assembly took place online to document the progress, achievements and highlights of the past research year. SFB spokesperson Prof. Alexandra Lenz summarised these in an annual report, introduced the new staff members and put the applications for associate membership to the vote.

05/07 - 06/07/2021: Workshop for Statistical Analyses in R

In an internal, two-day online workshop, Andreas Baumann from the University of Vienna gave interested SFB project staff a basic and advanced course with practical exercises in statistical evaluation methods with the analysis programme R.

31/03 - 01/04/2021: Excel-Workshop

Ludwig M. Breuer organised a basic workshop and an in-depth workshop for selected functions and statistical evaluations in the pogramme excel for the colleagues of the SFB.

10/12 - 11/12/2020: SFB Days Online

Due to the pandemic, the SFB Days 2020 had to take place online. All project parts of the SFB presented selected analyses and the progress of their research work from the past year. The members of the Advisory Board also participated and were able to get an idea of the activities in the individual project parts.

22/07 - 23/07/2019: STx-Workshop in Vienna

From July 22th-23th, the young researchers of the SFB "German in Austria" organised a workshop for acoustic phonetics in Vienna. Jan Luttenberger from project part 02, working at the Acoustics Research Institute (ARI) in Vienna, informed all interested participants about the programme STx which is used to analyse and process acoustic signals and speech at the ARI. In this course, the participants were able to carry out some measures using data from the corpus established in the SFB.

10/04 - 12/04/2019: SFB Days in Vienna

This year's SFB-Days serve the purpose to discuss with all project parts and the international advisory board the strategies, main content and procedures concerning the follow-up appliaction for the second project stage. Additionally, the young researchers will have the possibility for professional exchange with the peers and to intensify existing cooperations in an extra workshop.

07/06 - 09/06/2018: SFB Days in Vienna

The annual SFB Days bring together all full and associate members of the project “German in Austria” as well as the international advisory board. They were established to enhance professional discussions and the optimisation of internal work processes and usually take place in Vienna. This year’s focus was put on the individual qualification projects of the SFB’s pre-docs and post-docs. By doing so, all participants had the opportunity to present chosen aspects of their work and discuss them in a subsequent feedback session. 17/04 - 18/04/2018: Workshop for Statistical Analyses

From April 17th-18th, the SFB "German in Austria" organised a workshop for statistical analyses in Vienna for all project parts. Dr. Astrid Adler from the "Institute of German Language" in Mannheim informed all interested participants about the statistic programme SPSS and about different methods of statistical computing. In this course, the participants were able to carry out some statistical evaluations using a test corpus and subsequently analyse the results. In addition, they had the opportunity to test and discuss calculations using their own data.

01/02/2018: Workshop on Phonetics

On the 1st of February 2018, a workshop was held for all phoneticians of the SFB. Everyone was brought up to date regarding the intended methods of the project and took part in lively discussions. In addition, this occasion provided a good opportunity to review potential common and consistent standards for phonetic annotation.

18/01 - 19/01/2018: Young Researchers' Meeting in Graz

This time the meeting was scheduled for two days and took place in Graz. An important item on the agenda was the discussion of the annotation and tagging systems. Further topics of discussion were the building of a core corpus, transcription standards and publication strategies. Furthermore, the group tackled organisational matters such as the planned joint panel at the urban languages conference in Graz 2018.

07/07/2017: Workshop: Linguistic Data and Databases (LDDB)

On the 7th of July 2017, the workshop "Linguistische Daten und Datenbanken" (LDDB; linguistic data and databases) took place in Vienna. The workshop primarily served as a platform to talk about different experiences with regard to digital processing and processing of data. Among the topics of discussion were current issues of projects, digital tools and technical aspects as well as personal experiences. More information can be found here.

12/06 - 14/06/2017: SFB Days in Vienna

All colleagues and associate members took part in this year's SFB Days. Furthermore, the high-quality staffed international advisory board, which advises and supervises the SFB, was also present. The SFB Days typically last three days and offer a varied programme. This year, the thematic focus was on the primary presentations of the sub-projects (including progress reports). A poster session reserved for the pre-docs of the SFB and their individual projects was also held. For more information please click here.

06/04/2017: Young Researchers' Meeting

The Young Researchers' Meeting gave opportunity to present the individual dissertation projects. On this occasion Stefanie Edler, Ann Kathrin Fischer and Kristina Herbert gave new insights into their respective dissertation topics.

27/03/2017: Project meeting in Salzburg

This time the meeting of all projects of the SFB was held in Salzburg. With all our colleagues from Vienna and Salzburg present we gave a status report of the current work progress within PP04. We also had the chance to exchange further ideas and take part in a workshop introducing "Bookstack", a tool for knowledge organisation.

14/01/2017: Young Researchers' Meeting in Vienna

The meetings of the young researchers, which take place on a regular basis, are not only for discussing issues concerning the single project parts but provide a platform to talk about general interests. The last meeting, for instance, provided the ideal framework to gain first insights into several dissertation projects and joint work packages. 

19/10/2016: SFB meeting in Graz

The general meetings of all project parts of the SFB always offers a good opportunity to exchange views. In the course of the meeting in Graz, the focus was put on presentations of the project parts to determine the current status of research as well as workshops concerning different topics.

05/07 - 09/07/2016: SFB Days during the DiÖ-conference

The DiÖ-conference in Vienna offered an ideal setting for the first SFB Days. In accordance with the SFB structure, the annual SFB Days bring together all colleagues of the SFB, associate members as well as the international Advisory Board. During the course of the meetings that usually last three days, all participants have the opportunity to exchange ideas, discuss project-related problems and present aspects of their individual projects.
